Dental Implants

The closest thing to a natural tooth — a permanent solution that looks, feels, and functions like the real thing.

What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is a small titanium post that is surgically placed into the jawbone to replace a missing tooth root. Once it fuses with the bone — a process called osseointegration — a custom-made crown is attached on top, giving you a tooth that looks and functions just like a natural one.

Unlike a bridge, an implant does not require modifying the adjacent teeth. Unlike a removable denture, it stays in place permanently and preserves the underlying bone.

The implant process

Placing an implant is a multi-step process that typically unfolds over three to six months:

  1. Consultation and planning: We take X-rays and a 3D scan to assess bone volume and plan the exact implant position.
  2. Implant placement: Under local anesthesia, the titanium post is placed into the bone. Most patients compare the discomfort to a routine extraction.
  3. Healing (osseointegration): The bone gradually bonds to the implant surface over two to four months. During this period, a temporary crown may be placed so the area does not look empty.
  4. Crown placement: Once the implant is stable, we attach the final custom crown, matched to the color and shape of your surrounding teeth.

Am I a good candidate?

Most healthy adults who are missing one or more teeth are candidates for implants. The key requirement is sufficient bone density to support the implant. If bone loss has occurred, a bone graft may be needed first — we will assess this during your consultation.

Uncontrolled diabetes, active gum disease, or heavy smoking can affect healing and may need to be addressed before proceeding. We will be honest with you about your specific situation.

Implants and orthodontics

If you are missing a tooth and considering orthodontic treatment, timing matters. In some cases, it makes sense to complete orthodontic alignment first and then place the implant in the ideal position. In others, the implant comes first. We coordinate with your orthodontic plan to get the best outcome for both.

How long do implants last?

With proper care, a dental implant can last a lifetime. The crown may need replacing after 15–25 years due to normal wear. Brush and floss as you would natural teeth, and keep up with regular dental check-ups.
